I Do and I Understand

“I hear and I forget.

I see and I remember.

 I do and I understand.”

These were the words spoken to me when I arrived in Costa Rica. We weren’t here to think, hear or see- we’ve spent a lifetime doing that. Sitting in a classroom. Reading books. Talking about living life. No- we were here to live life, to experience life- then we would truly understand. We were here to bring the theories to life, to feel them in our bones, to truly KNOW.

I’ve spent decades learning theories and concepts, and to be honest, I love it. I love when my mind churns with stimulation and contemplation, but Costa Rica showed me that there is no comparison to really living something- knowing it intimately, personally, and emotionally.

In Costa Rica,

I danced my heart out and knew celebration.

I stood under a waterfall and knew freedom.

I explored the jungle and knew adventure.

I connected with beautiful people and knew community.

I spent time in deep solitude and knew myself.

I laughed until I was sore and knew joy.

I laid on the grass looking at the stars and knew the love of this universe.

We are here to live life, to experience life, to know life in our bones. To understand life with our minds, but more importantly to feel life with our hearts.

Dare to live the theories that speak to you and know them intimately. Come alive with the ideas that you love. You are freedom. You are adventure. You are joy. You are love. You are the instrument here and capable of embodying it all!
